Mambo Jumbo...

Being 22 this year, I here by declare to the whole world that I've not been clubbing or pubbing before. Yes... A sua ku I am. Not seen the so called night life of Singapore, never been to the famous or rather infamous hang outs such as Madam Wong or Double O, nor China Black.

As I was walking back home from Hawken after dinner, my dinner kakis were discussing mambo nights and the really wacky dance moves that are choreograph for each trance and techno mix. I can see that they are having fun, dancing along to their own singing. Of course, there were no one in sight to witness this once in a life time performance except for ourselves. They were talking about standing on platforms and table while dancing, to me, it is something that I, personally, will NEVER do it (tho' I've told myself never to say 'never').

I just cannot imagine myself standing on the table, and losing myself in the loud music and catchy dance moves. If I ever do that, it's only because some one has spiked my drink.

Even though I have never went clubbing before, the closest I've been to is a cafe-pub that allows people to smoke(which isn't even close to the idea of clubbing) the rough idea that I get from hearing other people's exprerience is this:

1. Smoking is absolutely ALLOWED.
2. Alcoholic drinks is a MUST.
3. Dance yourself silly.
4. (an elaboration from pt 2.) The 'Merlion' syndrome due to excessive drinking.
5. Loud trance and techno music.
6. Dress glam.
7. Scandalous Environment.

Jy, Py and I did mention something about going clubbing on one of those ladies' Night but we didn't go in the end. I've been wanting to go clubbing once to have a taste of how it is like, tho' I'm aware of the risk of a passive smoker and the possibility of me being the biggest joke when I attempt to dance.

I'll also like to keep a positive mind about the whole idea of clubbing before I been there and done that. What I mean by this is that, I've always seen clubs as a 'complicated' place of interest. Whereby the possibility of a crime taking place is very high, and especially girl, are very vulnerable to being taken advantage of. Perhaps those of you who have been clubbing before my dispute what I said, and I really don't mind if someone corrects me (afterall, I'm the one who hasn't been clubbing).

The first time I witness a crime taking place in a pub was from many years ago when my Aunt got married. We went to this Karaoke lounge which has a pub in the main hall. As my sister and I need to use the toilet, we need to go through the pub across the hall to the toilet. We were walking by so innocently and I happened to see 2 men trying something funny with a woman who has obviously drank something that has been spiked. It was then that I've concluded the scandalous nature of such places.

Nevertheless, I will still like to take a look for myself. Despite the hazards that are associated with going. E.g. passive smoking and ear drums bursting. Being an aspiring social worker (in the making), I would like to go and see what kind of place does young people go to. So as to be able to relate to them better. I know it sounds like I'm trying too hard, but heck lah hor...
