White lies...
I'm sure everyone's well aware of the meaning of a white lie... Technically speaking, it means lies that are told to preven another party from getting hurt (or something to that extent).
This ia first and foremost a very anglo saxon thing... WHITE lies.. why white? Why not pink or baby blue? These colours look innocent and harmless enough too don't they? But... why does it have to freaking be white!?
and... why are white lies generally more acceptable than your usual lies?
Lies are lies... who cares if they are white or black? Why? Lies also want to discriminate issit? Lies also need to be colour coded issit?
Some people think white lies are ok... because they are told with the intention to do good (supposedly)... But given a choice, I rather know the truth than the so called angelic, white lie... It's the truth or nothing at all... Don't lie to me and tell me it's for my own good. What a load of packaged of bullshit, in my opinion.
Why deprive the person the opportunity to choose whether he or she want to know the truth of not? What makes the person think that it's okay to decide on behalf of the recepient whether or not what he or she should or shouldn't know?
I must say I have nothing against ang mors... I'm surrounded by them, should anyone need to be reminded. I'm just perplexed by the notion of white lies being justify as legitimate.
I mean... if someone asks another person something... It means (not 100% of the time, but more often than not) that he or she wants to know something about it. If the person who is being asked cannot provide the curious soul with a truthful answer, just say so... There's not need to fabricate a beautiful story. I'm sure if the other person finds out that he or she is being lied to, be it a white lie or blue lie or purple lie, they won't be happy about it.
Of course there are circumstances where somethings should be sworn to secrecy. Then just don't say anything about it. To me, there's a huge discrepancy between a lie and not saying.
When someone lie, he or she is telling a tale that is fictional and well plotted (not so in some). Whereas, not saying anything about it is just... simply not saying... Whatever the other party has inferred, is their personal interpretation of the situation. It may or may not be the truth. So they cannot claim that they have been lied to...
no?
bottom line, white lies are just excuses for the rainbow colour of lies to be told.
