globalisation...

I read an article on the newspaper today... it talks about how Beijing is preparing for the Olympics...

One of the things that they are doing is to change the signboards to English. Which isn't exactly a bad thing...

Nevertheless, they are saying that by doing so it is turning the natives into foreigners. In the sense that, Chinese who are not English literate, will not understand those signs. In a way, they are being excluded and alienated in the own country.

I'll be doing a 2500 words assignment on globalisation soon, I don't think I want to go into details about it on my blog.

China is a country that has never fail to amaze me... Be it their rich culture or the ugly side which they try very hard to pretend it doesn't exist.

I've always been interested in the whole history of china. Someone once asked me, if I have the ability to revive one from from history, who will it be... I'd say it's Qin Shih Huang...

Not because I want him to continue burning the books, but he a genius... an unscrupulous one. I was watching this china documentary on tv when I was back in Singapore for the holidays, its about the Qin dynasty and how Qin reign over china, and his contribution to the richness of the history of China.

Anyway... China has taken a huge leap toward modernisation, be it social, economical or environmental, Shanghai is more or less a prototype of what China's going to be like in a few years time... At the rate they are going, it's not going to take them too long to be on the same playing field as the G6.

Honestly, I don't know if I'm looking forward to see the change... With modernisation, come the eradication of culture and the traditional way of life. I really hope China won't have to compromise or give up their customs for the so called "better life"...
