homosexuality...
i overheard a conversation at work regarding same sex relationship. this social worker's student is becoming inclined to be involved in same sex relationship and she is worried for the student.
what makes a same sex relationship less legitimate than the so called normal relationship. why is homosexuality abnormal? are we merely conforming to social norm or is it really abnormal?
i remember some one once asked me,"who say cereal can only be eaten for breakfast?" when i thought about it, that's quite true, who is to say that you can't have cereal for lunch or dinner or even supper? as long as it fills the stomach, it has fulfill it's purpose for existing.
similarly, who is to say that a relationship has to be between man and woman? and who are we to say whether the relationship is normal or not? just because it deviated from the social norm, it is unacceptable?
by attaching a negative label to homosexuality, people are quick to jump to the conclusion that it is wrong... what's wrong?
as much as i respect that some people cannot accept the notion of homosexuality, i get quite irritated when they say they are going to 'change' them. Change them to what? why are people constantly trying to infringe on the rights of others to choose what they want to do and who they want to be, rather than valuing the person for who they are and not who they cannot be?
just keep your opinions to yourself if you are not in favour of same sex relationship, all that one can do it to stay out of it, i don't think the person needs to be put down anymore. They are constantly under the scrutiny of the society at large, all they need is to be left alone or supported in their struggle against the tides of disapproving emotions.
unfortunately, the society we are in will probably take a long time to come to terms with people who are different.
